Backup for Workgroups - Version 5.0 FREE Update

We encourage you to take a few minutes today and update your existing Backup for Workgroups installation to the new Version 5.0.  There have been many improvements made to features that deal with file restorations and error message reporting.  Should you need to contact us for support, we can better help you if you are running the new Version 5.0.

Important Changes to Backup for Workgroups Version 5.0:

• The “Data Repository Manager” is now called the “Backup Server” and the “Primary Storage Group” is now called “Backup Storage”.
• For (1) computer installations, the Backup Client and Backup Server will merge into a single user interface.
• With a single user-interface there is only (1) service running, named “Backup for Workgroups”.
• By default the software is installed under the Local System account.  Customers updating existing installations will have the service switched to the Local System account and if any network storage locations are used, the Administrator will be prompted to add those login credentials over again.
• The Backup Server can still be installed by itself for installations that are on a dedicated Backup Server.
• Network Share support in a Client’s backup set now supports only multiple shares on the same network device.
  *** Note:  Existing Backup for Workgroups customers with multiple network devices and shares will still be able to perform backups with their backup sets configured as-is.  However, if any network shares in a backup set are removed or deleted, administrators will not be allowed to add them back.

General Backup for Workgroups Update Information:

• No reboot is necessary at any point of the update - no disruption for servers.
• All existing Client configurations, settings and backup data remain unchanged. ***
• The FREE Update will only take about 2 minutes per Client computer.
• Run the "bfwsetup.exe" file and update your Backup Server computer first, then run it on your Backup Client(s).
• Note:  customers with Auto Client update do need to download and manually update the Backup Server with the "bfwsetup.exe" file.  After the Backup Server has been updated, the Auto Client update feature will send the software update to the Clients for you within 24 hours.
