Should you decide to move your Backup Server to a newer, faster computer, follow the steps below.
Go to the computer running the Backup Server.
You need to stop the Backup for Workgroups service. To stop this service: Right click on My Computer. Select Manage. On the left, expand the Services and Applications tree listing. Place the highlight on the word Services. Now you can scroll through the list of installed Services on the right. Select the Backup for Workgroups service. Press Stop.
Copy all of the files and folders from the Primary Storage location in use by the old Backup Server to a new location that you plan to use with the new Backup Server. The time to complete this copying of files is dependent upon the amount of data you have backed up and the speed of your computers and network.
Go to the new computer and download Backup for Workgroups on the new computer. Run the Backup for Workgroups Setup program and choose to follow the steps of reinstalling the Backup Server.
The Setup program will lead you through the process of reinstalling the Backup Server and accessing the backup data that you copied from the old server to the new server.
Go to each of the computers running the Backup Client software.
Run Backup for Workgroups and go to Tools>Preferences>Account Information.
At the top of the Account Information dialog, change the name of the Backup Server from the old computer's name to the new computer's name.
Save your changes.
