Preferences - Verifier Panel
The Backup Server stores the files that
are backed up into a storage repository. This storage repository consists of the
backup files and database files that track the backup files. You can instruct the
Backup Server to
periodically check these files.
Database Verifier
- The Database Verifier checks the integrity of the database files that are used to keep track of the
backup files. If the Database Verifier finds a problem with a database,
the Database Verifier will rebuild the database using the log files that are maintained at the
Backup Server. Should the Backup Server find and repair a corrupt database file, it will send this
corrected database file to the backup client the next time the client logs in. This keeps the Backup Client and the Backup Server in sync.
- Note, when the Database Verifier runs and a Backup
Client is logged in and performing a backup, that client will not be verified in
order to not interfere with the backup process being performed by that Backup
Client. In other words, the Backup Client's backup process is given priority
over the verification process.
Storage Verifier
- The Storage Verifier performs scans through
the files that have been backed up and cross checks them with the tracking
databases. If this process finds that there are files that are missing
from the storage repository it will inform the appropriate Backup Client to
repeat the backup process on the missing files. If the verification process finds files in the
storage repository that
should not be present, they will be deleted to free storage space.
- The Storage Verification process cannot run
until all Backup Clients have completed their backups. If any Backup Client is
actively performing a backup, the verification will delay its start until all
Backup Clients complete their backups. During the verification process all
Backup Clients will be unable to login. This prevents the contents of the
Backup Server
from changing during the verification process.
- Since the process of performing a Storage
Verification can take a long time, it is recommended that you run this process infrequently,
such as once every two weeks. If you discover an immediate need to perform
the verification, you can press the Run Now button to start a verification
immediately.
