Mirroring Information
The lower section of
the Storage panel shows you the devices in your Mirror Group. Please note
that using the Mirroring feature is completely optional. Within Backup for
Workgroups, the mirror function only mirrors the data at the Backup Storage
Locations and it
is not a general purpose Mirroring product.
-
What is a Mirror?
Mirroring is the process of storing identical data
at two locations. A mirror is simply a copy of your data. With
Backup for Workgroups, you can use the Mirroring feature to backup your Backup
Storage drive(s).
-
Why You Should Mirror
The purposeof mirroring your data is to keep a
second copy in case there is a problem with the first copy.
The mirror gives you the ability to quickly recover your Backup Server
data in the event that a disaster occurs at your Backup Server.
We recommend storing the mirror on a removable hard drive or USB/FireWire
external drive, or other portable media to allow for rotation and off-site
storage.
-
What is Mirrored?
When you invoke the mirroring feature, the
data at the Backup Storage Group is mirrored (copied) to the target mirror location.
-
What is Not Mirrored?
Keep in mind that
the mirroring capability included in Backup for Workgroups is designed to mirror
your backup data only.
It should not be confused with a general purpose mirroring program.
The mirroring function does not cover ALL the data that resides on the
computer hosting the Backup for Workgroups Backup Server.
It does mirror the backup data that is stored at your Backup Storage
Group, but it
does not capture anything else residing on this same computer.
The mirror can restore the Backup for Workgroups Backup Server.
